JUSTICEVILLE
by Bolema/Glaser 1987
Over thirty thousand homeless people in LA.
It's the number one city where the homeless stay.
No job no ride no bed no frills,
just a cardboard box and Justiceville.
Got the nod from the owner of a vacant lot.
Put the cardboard plywood shelters up.
Took pride in the property and made it work.
You gotta stop that skid row curse.
Justice for Justiceville!
Justiceville is an open door
alternative to the mission floor,
preservative of self respect.
We know it ain’t perfect yet.
Viva la Justiceville!
The homeless situation is overkill.
No room for us in the welfare line.
Justiceville is a sign of the times.
Justice for Justiceville!
The people grew strong, had no fear.
Had a brand new start with the neighbors here.
Privacy and a sense of hope.
No standing in line, no crime, no dope.
Justiceville makes a point to meet
all the county codes that keep the city neat.
But when the bad bulldozer comes around the bend,
take a giant step back, this home’s condemned.
Justice for Justiceville!
Now we’re back in line at the mission door.
Can’t sleep or cook at home no more.
Got no address, no phone, no heat.
And for sixty days, penalty, no relief.
Viva la Justiceville!
The homeless situation is overkill.
No room for us in the welfare line.
Justiceville is a sign of the times.
Justice for Justiceville!
